DIRECTOR, RESIDENT MEDICAL CLINIC - THE HOSPITAL OF CENTRAL CONNECTICUT

The Hospital of Central Connecticut (HoCC), a 446-bed community teaching hospital and the main campus for the UCONN Health Primary Care Internal Medicine Residency program, has an outstanding opportunity for Internal Medicine physician to supervise direct clinical care in the Internal Medicine Outpatient Clinic.  We seek an innovative thinker with a demonstrated interest in academic medicine and resident teaching.

Reporting to the Chair of Department of Medicine and the Program Director of the UConn Health Primary Care Internal Medicine Residency Program, the Medical Director will provide oversight, administration, and management of physician, medical residents, medical students, and provider staff in the Outpatient Clinic. Position will be core faculty in the PCIM residency program and be involved in curriculum development.  Position includes academic appointment at The University of CT School of Medicine.

The successful candidate will be an innovative, collaborative BC/BE Internal Medicine Physician. In addition, s/he will possess qualifications for academic appointment at the University of Connecticut (assistant professor level or higher), and an interest in faculty development, medical education, and research. The Medical Director will:

  • Precept and train medical trainees including medical students and medical residents
  • Collaborate with specialists and clinical faculty at HoCC to provide a multi-disciplinary learning experience   
  • Develop leadership skills and development and promote faculty wellbeing through the respected HHC Provider Leadership Development Institute and the groundbreaking Office of Provider Wellness

  • Graduate of an accredited medical school.
  • Certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine
  • Current Connecticut Physician/Surgeon licensure, Federal DEA, and Connecticut Controlled Substance Licensure (or eligible)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a faculty appointment at The University of Connecticut School of Medicine
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Innovative thinker who considers diverse ways to deliver care to underserved or vulnerable patients
  • Commitment to continued development in teaching and mentoring physician-trainees and medical students
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills with the ability to execute with limited information and ambiguity
  • Effective presentation skills and the ability to communicate with colleagues at all levels
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment
